Network Engineer

General Summary

The systems engineer provides the business knowledge and technical skills to implement technical strategies, evaluate products and provide a superior level of technical support that benefits the company.


Essential Functions

  1. Designs, builds, and implements servers, storage, virtualization, and operating systems as well as attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation and testing of new server and storage hardware and software.
  2. Provides direct support in day-to-day operations on server hardware and operating systems; duties include evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
  3. Troubleshoots server issues, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of server and storage devices.
  4. Participates in planning design, technical review and implementation for new server and storage infrastructure hardware and operating systems for Windows, VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, and Linux.
  5. Maintains server and storage infrastructure standards.
  6. Provides technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by director.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Travel is minimal and confined mostly to the New Orleans metro area.

Required Education and Experience

1. B.A. in Information Systems or equivalent experience
2. Seven to ten years of experience with hardware and software installation and maintenance
3. Extensive working knowledge of PCs, network hardware, operating systems and software

Preferred Education and Experience

Technology certifications such as VMware and Microsoft certifications HIGHLY preferred

Work Authorization

Authorized to work in the US.
